Fairfax High School in Los Angeles had its usual cliques of jocks, cheerleaders and nerds. For Anthony Keidis and Michael 'Flea' Balzary, who didn't fit any of these groups, it was a place of adolescent pranks and the discovery of Funk and Rock music rather than a conventional education.

Even in the years after Fairfax, when Anthony and Flea, along with other ex-school mates had formed The Red Hot Chili Peppers, they turned to their hometown's film glamour and ghettos for inspiration, and became pioneers of the rising LA music scene throughout the mid-eighties and nineties.

Some of their biggest hits, including Under the Bridge, Hollywood, Californication and Dani California all have references to particular experiences or people from the band's years in LA, and it was in producer Rick Rubin's Hollwood Hills mansion that the band were holed up for 3 months recording their seminal album Blood Sugar Sex Magik. |
